A former senior diplomat says civilians “have no idea” what Australian Special Forces troops confronted while fighting in the Middle East.

The International Criminal Court has indefinitely shelved an investigation into Afghanistan war crimes allegedly committed by Australian troops.

In a letter to The Ray Hadley Morning Show, the former diplomat said Australian troops experienced “maliciousness” on the ground.
