Why significant protection from shingles can cost hundreds
An infectious diseases expert has explained the benefit of shingles vaccinations.
Deborah Knight, who was recently diagnosed with shingles, has discovered the more effective vaccine, Shingrix, is not listed on the PBS.
Infectious diseases expert Robert Booy told Deborah Knigth that the largely available vaccine is only around 50-70 per cent effective.
“After four or five years effectiveness goes down to about 30 or 40 per cent.”
This is compared to 90 per cent effectiveness for Shingrix.
