Research Scientist Dr Neil Sims explains how ‘AquaWatch Australia’ will provide information on the safety of water quality.

Through a network of satellites, water sensors and artificial intelligence, AquaWatch Australia will provide early warnings for toxic algae, blackwater and runoff contamination.

“We’re trying to make it so that people can access information about the safety of the water that they’re planning to drink or wash with,” said Dr Sims.

Dr Sims explains to Deborah Knight that people need to realise swimming in and drinking contaminated water is extremely dangerous.

“Poor water quality is estimated to kill more people each year than all forms of violence, including war,” he said.
