Witness describes harrowing moments of Little Bay shark attack

Article image for Witness describes harrowing moments of Little Bay shark attack

Local surf lifesaver Peter Agnew was present at Little Bay yesterday and has provided insight into the distressing scenes of a swimmer being mauled by a Great White shark.

He told Jim Wilson, “These sorts of incidents are a big punch in the heart for us”.

The first fatal shark attack in almost 60 years has left people shocked, “When I was there people were stunned”.

“Our lifesavers who attended were quite moved by the situation as well.

“It was a very full-on emergency situation.”

The ocean area is unpatrolled and Mr Agnew said the area is “also one of the most dangerous blackspots for rock fisherman”.

“A patrolled beach is always much…better to swim at safely.”
