The same-sex marriage survey results will be released at 10am this morning in Canberra.

Co-Chair of Australian Marriage Equality and Independent Member for Sydney Alex Greenwich joined 2GB Breakfast host Alan Jones ahead of the announcement.

“We’re hopeful it will be a strong yes vote. I’m confident Australians have come together in support of fairness and equality and really want our parliament to finally get this done.”

Mr Greenwich believes both sides of the debate have behaved appropriately, for the most part.

“Of course there have been moments of conflict on the fringes and those have been unfortunate. I don’t think that demonstrates what the Australian conversation on marriage equality has been.”

If the ‘Yes’ vote prevails as predicted Mr Greenwich is confident parliament will have legislation passed before Christmas, as promised by Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull.

“Taxpayers have been given the $120-million bill for this process, they’re not going to stomach any delays from Canberra… Vote this through and do something good and make people happy, I think that would be a wonderful way to end the year.”
