Ray Hadley has taken a Liberal MP to task, questioning why he isn’t challenging the Prime Minister’s position on a renewable energy target.

It appears the government’s flagship energy policy, the National Energy Guarantee (NEG), will get over the line today as Coalition members debate the plan.

The policy has been criticised by some members on the backbench, with former prime minister Tony Abbott concerned the NEG is too focused on an “emissions obsession” and won’t force prices down.

Cyber Security Minister Angus Taylor tells Ray he’s been arguing against a strong “focus on renewables” for “many years” but a 26-per cent renewable target is now in place whether we like it or not.

“The obsession with emissions at the expense of reliability and affordability has been a massive mistake, Ray.

“I do think that we’re at a point now where we can get that balance right.”

But Ray is calling out the minister for complying with Prime Minister Malcolm Turnbull’s position on a 26-per cent renewable energy target.

“What you’ve done and what you will be doing by surrendering to the Prime Minister, you’re assuring that this time next year you might be the spokesman for cyber security because you won’t be in the ministry.

“Bill Shorten will be sitting there in the lodge.

“You people in Canberra are compliant and you won’t speak out against the bloke that leads the party that’s leading you… to Opposition.”
